PROVISO PARTNERSHIP GOLF OUTING ⛳️
Proviso Township serves 14 villages, including North Riverside residents who live west of 9th Avenue.
The Township works closely with local community organizations to help protect the health, safety, and general welfare of township residents. Its services are separate from those provided by municipal government and include property assessment, mental health services, assistance programs, senior services, youth programs, transportation, and other general township services.
On Monday, August 10th, the Proviso Partnership Golf Outing was held at LaGrange Country Club. ⛳️
We thank Proviso Township for its continued partnership and for providing valuable services and resources to our residents and communities.
We appreciate all that the Township does to support the residents we serve!

The Village of North Riverside is proud to be a member of the West Central Municipal Conference (WCMC), a regional council of governments serving west suburban Cook County, Illinois.
On Monday, August 3, representatives gathered for the WCMC’s Annual Golf Outing, providing an opportunity for member communities to connect, collaborate, and strengthen regional partnerships.
Founded in 1980 with just 15 local members, the WCMC has grown to represent more than 51 entities, including 40 municipalities, townships, community colleges, and Brookfield Zoo.
The WCMC plays a vital role in fostering intergovernmental cooperation, advocating for legislative priorities, and coordinating transportation planning to benefit communities throughout the region. We are proud to work alongside our neighboring municipalities and partner organizations to address regional issues and improve the quality of life for our residents.

On Sunday, we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Fong Fest 2026 at Chef Shangri-La!
Guests came from near and far to celebrate this incredible milestone and enjoy a day filled with fun, food, and entertainment.
Event Highlights:
• 🍹 The legendary Dr. Fong cocktail, the restaurant’s signature secret-recipe rum-based drink named after co-owner Dr. Fong.
• 🎶 Live outdoor entertainment throughout the day featuring local bands, Elvis tribute performers, and beach and surf rock music.
• 🛍️ Tiki-themed shopping, local craft vendors, and delicious festival food.
It was wonderful to see so many people celebrating together, and a fun time was had by all!
Congratulations to Chef Shangri-La on 50 years of outstanding hospitality, delicious cuisine, and creating a unique dining experience. The annual Car Show and Concert in the Park was held on Thursday, July 23, at the Village Commons and Gazebo. The weather was perfect, and a wonderful time was had by all.
More than 50 classic and custom vehicles were on display, giving attendees an incredible lineup of cars to admire while enjoying live music from Rosie & The Rivets. Awards were presented for Most Likely to Get Pulled Over, Best in Show, and Best Paint Job, adding to the excitement of the evening.
A sincere thank you to our Recreation Department for all of your hard work organizing another outstanding community event. Your dedication continues to bring residents together and create wonderful summer memories for everyone!

History has been made!
For the first time in North Riverside Little League history, a team has advanced all the way to the Illinois State Championship Game, earning the title of 2026 Illinois State Runner-Up!
This incredible team demonstrated heart, determination, resilience, teamwork, and outstanding sportsmanship throughout their unforgettable journey. Their remarkable run inspired not only their teammates and families but our entire North Riverside community.
One of the most memorable moments wasn’t just what happened on the field—it was seeing the overwhelming support from the North Riverside community. The sea of fans cheering them on showed these players just how much they were loved, supported, and believed in. It was a moment they’ll never forget, and one our community will always be proud of.

Unplug Illinois is a statewide public awareness campaign created by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA). The initiative encourages residents to disconnect from electronic devices and reconnect with play, creativity, and community at their local parks and recreation facilities. It also highlights the many wellness, environmental, and economic benefits that parks provide.
On Saturday, our beautiful Village Commons was filled with fun as residents came together to celebrate Unplug Illinois! There were activities for everyone to enjoy, from cornhole and dancing to bingo and more.
Thank you to our Recreation Department for organizing another wonderful community event, and to everyone who participated and took the time to unplug, connect, and enjoy a great day together!

Mayor Mengoni and Commissioner Aguilar welcomed our 173 Village of North Riverside Day Camp campers on Wednesday’s field trip to Brookfield Zoo! Everyone had a wonderful time exploring the zoo, watching the dolphin show, and seeing so many amazing animals.
A special thank you to Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar for generously providing the tickets and helping make this memorable day possible for our campers.
As always, thank you to our outstanding Recreation Department Day Camp staff and counselors for keeping a close eye on our campers and making sure they had a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience throughout the trip.

A heartfelt thank you to the Recreation Department for all of your hard work organizing this year’s 4th of July Parade. Thank you as well to all of our Village departments for everything you did to help make the parade such a fun and memorable event.
It was wonderful to see so many residents—young and old—lining the streets with smiles on their faces as the parade passed by. The celebration concluded at Veterans Park, where Mayor Mengoni welcomed everyone with opening remarks, followed by the presentation of awards to the top three Little League floats.
Choosing the winners was no easy task because every float was creative, patriotic, and outstanding! Congratulations to all of the participants, and thank you for the time, effort, and community spirit you put into making this year’s parade such a success. You helped make our Independence Day celebration one to remember!
A special thank you to Kyle Capone and Michelle Galindo for helping make our town look so patriotic by placing American flags throughout the entire community. Your dedication and hard work added a beautiful touch to our 4th of July celebration.

The Knights of Columbus hosted their Steak Out 250 event on Saturday, June 27th. The Knights of Columbus put their faith into action through charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.

Thank you to the Chicago Suburban Radio Association for operating their annual field day at Village Commons this weekend. Amateur Radio Field Day is the biggest annual event in amateur (ham) radio in the United States and Canada. It is held every year on the fourth full weekend of June, with thousands of amateur radio operators setting up temporary stations in parks, schools, emergency operations centers, and other public locations.
Operators practice establishing reliable communications using portable equipment powered by generators, batteries, solar panels, or other emergency power sources. This simulates operating during disasters when normal communications may be unavailable.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting U.S. military veterans who were wounded, injured, or became ill during their service.
Village staff, campers, and residents proudly welcomed the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride as participants traveled down Des Plaines Avenue on Friday, June 12th.
We are grateful for the opportunity to recognize these brave veterans and thank them for their service, sacrifice, and dedication to our country, USA.

The NRU Village Board members were proud to sponsor the Holy Name Society Golf Outing and support its mission of service, fellowship, and faith in our community.
The Society’s annual Golf Outing was held on Friday, June 12th, bringing members and supporters together for a great day of camaraderie and fundraising. Throughout the year, the Holy Name Society sponsors a variety of events that strengthen community connections, including popular pancake breakfasts and the annual Turkey Shoot.

The Mayor’s Golf Outing was held on Monday, June 8th at Riverside Golf Club. The outing raises funds for the Youth Scholarship Program, which provides educational scholarships to North Riverside students pursuing a college education.
This year’s outing raised more than $28,000 and will fund 30 scholarships for North Riverside families.
A sincere thank you to the Youth Scholarship Committee, Recreation Department, Riverside Golf Club, Dana Santucci, our sponsors, and all of the golfers who participated. Your continued support helps create educational opportunities for North Riverside students and makes this program a tremendous success.

The UCP Seguin Stroll & Roll was held on Sunday, June 7, with 236 participants strolling and rolling through a scenic course of North Riverside’s own Commons Park on a beautiful day. The family-friendly event featured walking, rolling, and activities in support of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
A special thank you to ABC Channel 7 Weatherman, Greg Dutra for helping kick off the event and sharing in the excitement of the day.
Thanks to the generosity of participants, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters, the event raised more than $23,000 to benefit UCP Seguin’s programs and services. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this year’s Stroll & Roll such a tremendous success!

On May 18th at the Village Board Meeting, Mayor Mengoni thanked Chief Ehrenberg on behalf of the entire Village of North Riverside, for his 30 years of service, his leadership during these past five years as Chief, and for the countless ways he made the department and this community stronger. Chief Ehrenberg received a standing ovation for his service. He will be honored at a retirement celebration on Friday, May 29th at 2pm. All are welcome to attend the celebration.

This is an annual, multi-state Law Enforcement event where police officers stand on top of Dunkin' rooftops to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics. Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that provides all-expense-paid trips for American veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice. Primarily serving veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, these trips prioritize exceptional care and support, often providing guardians for veterans who might otherwise be unable to travel.

Mayor Joseph Mengoni, Administrator Scarpiniti, and Trustee Sarro attended IML Lobby Day 2026 on Wednesday, April 29. The day began with an informative Lobby Day briefing hosted by the Illinois Municipal League.
Accompanied by our lobbyist, Chris Nybo, we met with Aaron Gold-Stein, Director of Legislative Affairs for the Illinois Department of Labor, to discuss key issues including entrance signage, the permit process, traffic signal timing, and speed limits.
We also met with State Senator Mike Porfirio to thank him for his continued support and to discuss North Riverside’s 2026 Capital Improvement plans, along with several pending House bills.
Additionally, we spent time with Democratic Nominee for State Representative; Shantel Franklin to discuss the needs and priorities of the North Riverside community.
We sincerely thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to meet with us. Maintaining strong relationships with our legislators is critically important, and these efforts have helped secure $13.5 million in funding for North Riverside to date.

Komarek’s National Junior Honors Society members recently wrote a letter to North Riverside Mayor Mengoni expressing concerns about traffic, stop signs, and student safety around the school. Mayor Mengoni went to Komarek to meet with the NJHS members to learn more about their concerns and discuss next steps. It was a valuable meeting with the Mayor, Village Clerk Lid, and members of our North Riverside Police Department.
The NJHS also gifted the Mayor a Komarek Class of 2026 t-shirt and blanket to thank him for sponsoring the 8th grade dinner dance again.

The WCMC annual legislative breakfast was held on Saturday, February 7th. The 2026 priorities include: restoring our local government distributive fund revenue, funding for lead pipe service water line replacement, timeline for state review permit applications, extend the amortization date for downstate public safety funds to the end of fiscal year 2050 or later, changes to home rule status, human trafficking, funding for local governments and capital improvements, transportation, and planning.

On Friday, November 14th Mayor Mengoni and elected officials helped kick off the holiday season at the North Riverside Park Mall Tree Lighting. Many families joined the celebration, anxiously awaiting Santa’s arrival on the fire truck. A DJ, toy soldiers, holiday characters, and carolers were there to add to the festivities. The event ended with Santa lighting the tree. It was a great way to welcome in the holiday season!

Opportunity Knocks is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the capacity of individuals with disabilities to live, work, and participate as active members of their communities. The OK Classic was held at Veterans Park on Saturday, September 27th. The Classic is a full day festival of fun for everyone that features a co-ed, 14 inch softball tournament, food and drink, kids entertainment, raffles and more. Opportunity Knocks has thanked the Mayor, Board, Staff and Public Works for such a wonderful event and partnership.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Monarch Festival that was held on Saturday, September 13th. The event was filled with music, raffles, fun activities, and information from over 40 organizations that participated.

Autumn Fest was a blast! From the chili cook-off, games, face painting, Blooz Brothers music to a spectacular fireworks display. Congratulations to the chilli cook-off winners: NRPD, NRFD and Ames. Thank you to Kathy Ranieri for making our delicious chilli, which was definitely a fan favorite!

The Berwyn Fire Department and Berwyn Police Honor Guard held its annual 9/11 Ceremony in remembrance of the lives lost, the courage of first responders, and the resilience of our nation on that day.

We were happy to attend Senator Porfirio of the 11th District’s event on Thursday, September 4th. Working with the Senator, he has helped North Riverside secure several grants for our community totaling approximately a million dollars. The latest grant he sponsored is for the community entrance signs. We truly appreciate his support to our community.

On Monday, August 28th Mayor Joe Mengoni dedicated one of the new benches in front of the Village Hall in honor of former Village Trustee and Administrator, Guy Blemonte.
Quoting Mayor Mengoni, “Guy was more than a public servant. He was the embodiment of dedication and compassion. He understood that true leadership was not about recognition or accolades, but about lifting others up.”
This bench will stand as a lasting tribute to Guy’s life of service, kindness, and gentle strength, forever woven into the fabric of North Riverside.

Mayor Joe Mengoni honored former Village Clerk Charmaine Kutt by dedicating Village Commons Drive as honorary Charmaine Kutt Drive, recognizing her decades of service and deep commitment to the community.
“Today, we gather not simply to rename a street, but to recognize a legacy,” said Mayor Mengoni. “It is both a joy and an honor to dedicate Commons Drive to a woman whose name has become synonymous with service, dedication, and community spirit: Charmaine Kutt.
It was a touching tribute to celebrate a woman whose impact on North Riverside will be felt for generations to come.
