It truly is a Season of Gratitude when we all come together to help one another. North Riverside along with surrounding towns came together on Saturday, December 20th and brought joy to families in need.
Christmas is such a special time for families, but putting gifts under the tree can be difficult. Christmas in Proviso is about community coming together. It’s about caring for our neighbors. It’s about making life a little easier one day at a time.
That’s a goal we all share—all year round.

Thank you North Riverside Fire Department for this wonderful tradition. Santa came to town this weekend for the annual Santa Run! Residents of all ages love seeing Santa as he travels through town greeting residents, taking photos, and spreading holiday cheer at every stop. Thank you to everyone who joined in on the fun! 🎅🚒

Thank you NRPD for all you did on collecting toys for Toys for Tots with Stuff a Squad. Fantastic turnout! Thank you to everyone who stopped by, donated, and helped fill the squad car with toys alongside our police department. Your generosity will make the season brighter for many children through Toys for Tots.

On Friday, November 14th Mayor Mengoni and elected officials helped kick off the holiday season at the North Riverside Park Mall Tree Lighting. Many families joined the celebration, anxiously awaiting Santa’s arrival on the fire truck. A DJ, toy soldiers, holiday characters, and carolers were there to add to the festivities. The event ended with Santa lighting the tree. It was a great way to welcome in the holiday season!

On Friday, November 14th Mayor Mengoni participated in a round table / press conference in support of the Safe Tap Act being sponsored by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi to help communities pay for the lead service line replacements.

Mayor Mengoni attended an event with County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. From this event, her Chief of Staff will be setting up a meeting between the Mayor, Cook County Commissioner Aguilar and herself to discuss infrastructure funding for North Riverside.

On Wednesday Night, Komarek School District 94 hosted a Family Reading Night. Students and their families had fun exploring and learning in all the different stations: sight word bullseye, phonics bowling, bozo buckets, and karaoke to name a few. Trustee Czajka and Clerk Lid volunteered to be special ‘mystery readers.’ What an amazing evening!

Thank you to North Riverside Parks and Recreation for this year’s Holiday Bazaar. With the wide variety of vendors, there was something for everyone. It was a fun way to kick off the holiday season with festive shopping, local vendors, and plenty of holiday cheer.

This event brought together Soldiers, Veterans, and their families for an afternoon of fun, connection, and community support.

The WCMC annual dinner was held on Friday, October 25th at the Rosemont Convention Center. The WCMC membership today totals over 51 entities, which includes 40 municipalities, 5 townships, 2 community colleges, Brookfield Zoo, and over 600,000 residents. North Riverside is proud to be a member, and we enjoy coming together with other communities to share ideas and visions.

Beautiful morning for a Walk, Bike and Roll to Komarek School Day 2025. The students were greeted by Komarek Staff, Mayor Mengoni, the Village Board, and North Riverside Police Officers. Nice to see so many smiling faces arriving on foot, bike and scooters. Wishing the students a great day and school year.

Opportunity Knocks is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the capacity of individuals with disabilities to live, work, and participate as active members of their communities. The OK Classic was held at Veterans Park on Saturday, September 27th. The Classic is a full day festival of fun for everyone that features a co-ed, 14 inch softball tournament, food and drink, kids entertainment, raffles and more. Opportunity Knocks has thanked the Mayor, Board, Staff and Public Works for such a wonderful event and partnership.

The Berwyn Fire Department and Berwyn Police Honor Guard held its annual 9/11 Ceremony in remembrance of the lives lost, the courage of first responders, and the resilience of our nation on that day.

We were happy to attend Senator Porfirio of the 11th District’s event on Thursday, September 4th. Working with the Senator, he has helped North Riverside secure several grants for our community totaling approximately a million dollars. The latest grant he sponsored is for the community entrance signs. We truly appreciate his support to our community.

On Monday, August 28th Mayor Joe Mengoni dedicated one of the new benches in front of the Village Hall in honor of former Village Trustee and Administrator, Guy Blemonte.
Quoting Mayor Mengoni, “Guy was more than a public servant. He was the embodiment of dedication and compassion. He understood that true leadership was not about recognition or accolades, but about lifting others up.”
This bench will stand as a lasting tribute to Guy’s life of service, kindness, and gentle strength, forever woven into the fabric of North Riverside.

Mayor Joe Mengoni honored former Village Clerk Charmaine Kutt by dedicating Village Commons Drive as honorary Charmaine Kutt Drive, recognizing her decades of service and deep commitment to the community.
“Today, we gather not simply to rename a street, but to recognize a legacy,” said Mayor Mengoni. “It is both a joy and an honor to dedicate Commons Drive to a woman whose name has become synonymous with service, dedication, and community spirit: Charmaine Kutt.
It was a touching tribute to celebrate a woman whose impact on North Riverside will be felt for generations to come.
